Overnight hours usually pay more — sometimes a lot more in hospitals. Enter base rate, night premium (% or $/hr), and night hours; see premium dollars and what those hours effectively pay.

When to use

Weighing nights vs days on the same unit; checking an offer that quotes night premiums.

When not to

For a full week with OT and mixed differentials, use paycheck with differentials or nurse pay.

Assumptions: You define which hours count as night; the tool does not look up your hospital's clock window.

Worked examples

  • Input

    Base $40
    Night +$5/hr
    36 hours

    Output

    Diff $180
    Effective $45/hr
  • Input

    Base $40
    Night +12%
    36 hours

    Output

    Premium $4.80/hr
    Diff $172.80

Common traps

  • Partial nights need hour splits — don't apply night % to the whole 12 if policy doesn't.
  • Some night premiums exclude OT hours.
  • Ask whether the % applies to charge or only staff base.
